A life’s winding path and all the experiences along the way…

Recent Stuff

“Hola! Can you say toilet paper thief?”

As Reiko becomes more comfortable in her new home, she has begun to explore the premises in more detail.

When she first arrived, she spent her time hiding. Under the bed, beneath the dining table and even cowered under the revolving Recliner of Sloth where she risked getting squished if I revolved suddenly.

Gradually, she started to emerge from these nooks and walk around, sniffing the furniture and venturing into all the other rooms.

I wonder where this strange trail leads?

Except the laundry room. Like me, she has no idea what is supposed to happen in that odd room full of strange appliances,

Her most recent evolution is to explore things that she can actually dig into. Like waste baskets and clothes hampers. The bathrooms are especially fertile sources for interesting, and fragrant, stuff.

This does not spark joy with her DogDad who is already tired of cleaning up all the bits and pieces of paper and detritus that Reiko has purloined and scattered with abandon all over the humble abode.

“It was like this when I got here.”

I realize that this is a good sign indicating increased confidence and feelings of security on her part. I just wish Reiko-chan had not discovered all the fun things that can be done with a roll of toilet paper.

Yes, when pulled, it does seem to go on forever, little explorer.

“I didn’t do it.”

She is so cute!! You wanted a dog with spunk!

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

She definitely has spunk. As the great philosopher and poet NIcki Minaj said so eloquently, “You got spark, you, you got spunk (oooo).” Who else could have rhymed “you” and “ooo?” So, has Chester made his initial run on all the tasty treats yet? Impending food coma?

He got this yak cheese stick that is kicking his butt and a Dunkin’ Donuts stuffed egg bagel sandwich that he has destroyed. And about six little maple biscuits (dog biscuits) and some ham. He’s kind of manic with the yak cheese. A good find.

I had to look up yak cheese sticks because I never heard of them. The only yak I knew was yakkety sax. Well, I knew that the yak was the state animal where you live – everybody knows that – but the chews were new to me. They sound custom made for Chester. Poor little Reiko would be defeated by the chew. She can handle a faux rawhide (note: faux) stick but that’s about it.

She is getting so comfortable! Great news. She has discovered toilet paper! haha! Not even my cats have interest in TP. Their interests, you ask? Come into my living room and view what once was ‘the good furniture.’ Ah, who cares. If I sit down and position my legs just right, you don’t even notice the stuffing. 😹
Merry Christmas to you and the little Miss. How was the lasagna last night?

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

Cat brain: furniture=scratching post; Lois’ leg=scratching post; anything=scratching post. The lasagna wasn’t bad. I may end up having it again tonight. Merry Christmas back at ya!

    Well done Reiko! Good dog!
You are training that man well. Keep going!

She expects to have me whipped into shape by Spring.

        Sooner surely?

          I’m a slow learner.

🤣I love that last photo! DogDad, don’t you remember that you were the one dragging the toilet paper around! Why would I do something like that?

I am glad she is no longer so scared of things and is getting comfortable with her surroundings.

Did you eat your lasagna yet or is that today?

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

I had lasagna last night and I may have lasagna tonight. The laundry is not the only room where my incompetence reigns. How do dogs learn that innocent look? They all know it. Slightly confused at being accused.

Yes, I’ve seen that look! Nox would say it was Luna and Luna would say it was Nox.

She’s trying to save you money…TP cheaper than toys…and then there’s all the fun of watching you clear it all up….
Just hope she does not work out what it is really for….

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

I end up with this giant ball of toilet paper and I can practically hear her laughing at me while playing as if she had nothing to do with the crime.

Yep, annoying, but definitely a baby step in coming out of her shell. At least you’re not cleaning up bodily extractions or, as another ready said, having to repair expensive furniture! Reiko, you’re starting to figure this out.

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

Re: the bodily stuff, with the heavy rains that we’ve had, the indoor pee pads have had steady usage but I guess that’s par for the course. At least she uses the pad instead of the carpets/rugs. Yeah, I get the feeling she’s starting to get the hang of things around me.

      1. Xena and Lucy Avatar

That’s great Reiko uses the pee pads! I’ve never even tried to train to pads…

OH, I love that Reiko is exploring adventurously! YAY! And she brings the festive, too! 😉 😛

Reiko: “It’s deconstructed art. A mess-terpiece! Hey, I’m artistically creative. So sue me.” 😉
    (((HUGS))) 😀 🐾 🧻 😀

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

Of the various messes that she creates, this one is the least exasperating. And perhaps the easiest clean-up. I have to admit it makes me laugh, too. 😁

  8. Bitey Dog Avatar

When Geordie was a puppy, I put a rock in a clear plastic bottle for him. It drove him nuts until he could figure out how to get the rock out of the bottle. Do you think your girl might enjoy a simply puzzle like that? It might distract her temporarily from the TP roll. (Unfortunately it will teach her how to unscrew the lids from bottles…a skill that you might not want her to have. 😆)

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

I’ve tried to teach her how to open a beer but she hasn’t savvied that yet. First things first. I like the rock in a bottle idea and I’m going to try it out. She has this funny habit of retrieving one pebble from the backyard and bringing it to the dog bed I keep in the living room. Just one pebble maybe an inch in diameter. Once brought in and placed in her bed, she ignores it. I toss it out and next day, a new pebble. Dogs are weird.

      1. Bitey Dog Avatar

Geordie used to do that too! You’re right, dogs are weird (but we love ‘em for it.)

Love to hear from ya
