Reiko is a rescue pup. The shelter said she was a Maltese-Terrier mix but more and more it appears she may be a Mauzer – a mix of Maltese and Schnauzer.
We don’t know much about her; her shelter records were incomplete. We do know that she was born in November 2024 so I got her just before her first birthday. She came from a dog hoarding situation and from what little can be gleaned, it was a rather dreadful environment and a traumatizing experience for her.
As this The Backstory link explains, she was likely heading for termination because her personality traits and behaviors likely made her unadoptable. Unless, of course, she could somehow hook up with some crazy old man who is also devilishly handsome, suave and brilliant.
Lucky her.
Reiko is plagued with extreme fear. She avoids any human contact, can get a little wild and crazy when left alone and has no training whatsoever – zip, zero, zilch and nada. By the way, these are her positive traits, it gets worse from there.
I’ve taken it as a challenge to help this little abused doggie have a better life, a great life hopefully. Somewhere down deep inside Reiko-chan is a real lady. I want that to shine through. I know it’s possibly a fool’s path but I am committed…or was it that someone said I should be committed?
Who am I? Nobody really. Just an old guy, retired, grouchy and possibly imbued with the distinct fragrance of old socks. I got nice sunglasses though. I like Sam Adams beer and hopeless dogs.
