Do you remember Rockwell’s 1984 hit song “I Always Feel Like Someone is Watching Me?” Of course you do, Bunky. You probably were wearing your Members Only jacket and singing along. In your Flashdance leggings and parachute pants no doubt. Lois and Carolyn probably had that giant poof-poof hairdo going on.
Well, our favorite Mauzer is disturbed because she feels somebody is always watching her and it’s not me. Here’s the story:
Back in the 1980s in Honolulu I sort of collected serigraphs and charcoals by the artist Pegge Hopper. Her stuff was (and to a degree, still is) iconic Hawaii imagery, focusing specifically on Hawaiian women.

Over the years several of my prints were gifted or sold or otherwise disappeared but I still have a small collection which I grouped and displayed on one wall of my living room. (The images in this post are taken from 3rd party sites because there is too much light reflection on my wall to get a decent photo on my phone.)
But Tom, you say, that stuff has no relevance to Rancho Cucamonga. I agree, but then again there’s precious little imagery specific to Rancho, so shush.
Here’s the thing. Miss Reiko has just now discovered the wall hangings and figured out that they are human faces and that those faces stare at her while she tries to watch TV from the Love Seat of Pathetic Torpor.
Every time she glances at the wall….THOSE FACES ARE LOOKING AT HER!

Remember that this is the Trauma Pup who runs away and hides when I make eye contact with her. Now she has a full wall of judgmental Hawaiian women giving her the stink eye. Her discomfort is evident but since none of of those women have yet moved, she’s not ready to fully abandon her comfy perch.
So throughout the course of an evening’s TV watching, the little paranoid furball keeps glancing over at the picture wall and studying it for extended periods just to make sure everybody stays in their lane.

It’s really quite funny to watch.
Love to hear from ya
