Return of the Prodigal Mauzer (sorry, Rembrandt)

After almost two weeks of strange, off-putting behavior, the Mauzer has decided to return to her previous manners.

That’s not to say we are now taking long hot soapy showers together (like Ginger and I). No, it just means that she is not openly defying me and acting like I was put on Earth to annoy her. Again, like Ginger.

Why? Who knows?

My “pet” theory (snorf) is that the heavy, non-stop rains that we had in the beginning of the year scared her.

The first time I took her outdoors in the rain she stepped off the covered patio, got hit with a juicy cold raindrop and ran whimpering back inside.

In turn, that unfortunate experience cascaded into her relying entirely on indoor pee pads and sometimes missing the target, irritation at no longer having the patio available for exploration and relaxation and diminished activity leading to dietary changes.

I have no idea if that’s accurate or not. But like a good DogDad, I welcomed the Prodigal Mauzer back with open arms. She (figuratively) returned the gesture.

So we’re pretty much back to square one on the trust and relationship issues. She continues to eye me with suspicion. Again, just like Ginger.

PS: I’ve been a bit tied up on project stuff so I may be a bit slower posting. Stop cheering.

    Project stuff? What?

Don’t get excited. I know you’re thinking about gardening or construction or remodeling or interior decorating but it’s not anything like that. I’m just tied up getting all the stuff done that I need to launch my charitable foundation by month’s end. I’m on schedule but the dreaded IRS has not yet sent its determination letter authorizing my new corporation as a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization and a lot of things key off that.

btw, looking at our avatars, it looks like Jacques and Reiko could be related.

Well, back to square one is definitely better than square -20.

That’s how I figure it. At least we can acknowledge the other’s existence now.

Ginger is going to love this.

Only if you tell her, snitch.

Are you considering any incentives for people to donate to your charity? I am thinking of Shriners’ who give away fleece blankets. Perhaps if someone donates $100 (?) or more they could receive one of the smaller pups that you designed? Just a thought. Those plush Malts are so cute that it might inspire people to have one of their own.

Will Max or Reiko be your company mascot? Their smiling faces could appear on ads, banners, correspondence.

Just being there is all it takes. Be there, and before you know it your little girl will decide that you are her sun and her moon. 💕

I appreciate your ideas. The distribution of the plush pups is a little tricky but we’re working on a variety of approaches including one like your suggestion. No plans for a mascot, yet. I hope Reiko can get over that terrible fear she has soon but if not I guess I’ll just have a scaredy-dog for awhile.

A friend said it took her rescue dog a whole year to adjust. Waiting’s hard, but it’s worth it. 😊❤️

I’m willing to go for the long haul. Maybe I can wear her down.

Yup. I’m one for fresh starts. I don’t recall if I mentioned that NewPup v.2 arrived to replace the deceased v.1 plush. Well, guess who had a major snit fit when I showed her the new arrival? Thing is, modeling with NewPup v.2 is showing some positive signs, for example, Miss Reiko is much quicker to respond to the hand command for “come” when New Pup v.2 is present. But jealousy runs deep and I can tell Reiko is just waiting to pounce on an unprotected NewPup v.2 and rip her to shreds.

I did NOT know about NewPup2 showing up! Ooh, on the drama when she arrived! 😉 Please keep us updated! I hope NewPup2 survives longer than NewPup1 did! 😉
I wonder if Reiko was like, “Hmm…I KNOW I got rid of that ‘thing’! How did she get back here?” Ha! 😀

Coop didn’t mind snow, but didn’t like rain, especially a hard rain.
He’d wear his raincoat with a hood, but we have some really funny memories of his attitude about that. 😀

Until he lost his hearing, he was always afraid of thunder and would always run to me and jump up on my lap. He’d stay with me long after the loud noise stopped. Finally, he’d get down and venture back “into life”. 🙂

You did note that she was unhappy about going out on the patio in the rain….I had no idea that it would affect her so badly, but that seems the only factor.
Good luck with the paperwork for your foundation…..setting up the refuge up the road took two years!

I’m pushing this project hard but you’re right in that there are so many red tape issues and bureaucratic hurdles to overcome. AI has been surprisingly helpful in digging through mounds of data and synthesizing action plans. If nothing else i am learning a lot about small time philanthropy.

Didn’t you know that she needed an umbrella to keep off the rain? What kind of DogDad lets their dog get wet? 😆

I am happy to hear Reiko has started trusting you again.

I’d get her a raincoat but…wait…I can’t get near enough to put it on. So it’s her own fault. I bet Nox has several raincoats.

      1. Julia Avatar

Nox never liked clothes. With her double layer of fur, she laughs at snow and rain. Luna had a raincoat and a hat. She was happy to wear it when it was raining. She had sweaters and a jacket for the cold. Nox wound sniff Luna when we put clothes on her. Bruce would mutter, “I can’t believe we’ve become people who put clothes on dogs.”

Love to hear from ya
