Amazingly, Reiko apparently fears only people and other dogs. I guess that reflects the challenges of her early days.
She is quite happy to let a vacuum cleaner pass by without a second glance. Max used to have conniption fits as soon as the Dyson appeared. Reiko is not scared by the sounds of household appliances and is not alarmed when I operate gardening or other tools nearby and things like the leaf blower, sander, circular saw and such are quite noisy. Even sharp, percussive sounds like fireworks don’t cause jump starts. I’m actually starting to wonder about the acuity of her hearing.
But people (that’s spelled “me”) are super scary. She looks at me as though I were wearing a plague mask and yelling for people to bring out their dead.
Tomorrow’s a big day and, unfortunately, it will probably be a frightening one for the little dog. We’re going to visit the Vet! I want to have a complete exam performed and at the same time, have her cleaned up tip to tail because she has received no bath or grooming care since she arrived at the shelter in September.
The problem is that she cannot be handled yet so I’ve asked that she be given the mini-groom and exam under sedation. The Vet insists that Reiko first be examined and then they will determine if sedation is required. OK, whatever, just take care of her.
I’ll let you know how the Vet visit goes tomorrow. Assuming I can wrangle her into her crate for transporting to the Dog Doc.
