When I was young (please feel free to groan, roll eyeballs and close this webpage) and away from my home in Hawaii, I’d communicate with my distant girlfriend by mail. I’d pen something almost daily to my Main Crush and then hover over the mailbox waiting for a response to be delivered.
On the flap of every letter we’d trade acronyms, the most common being SWAK which, of course, meant Sealed With A Kiss. On occasion we’d jazz things up and demonstrate how cool we were by writing SWALCAKWS. Sealed With A Lick Cause A Kiss Wouldn’t Stick. Kind of a contrast with today’s social media communication trends, eh Bunky?
Today, I got my first SWALCAKWS from Reiko-chan. For several days we’ve been playing the game where I put treats for her on the floor, always getting a little closer with each one, so as to build her confidence and convince her I’m really a trustworthy guy. We seemed to have stalled at about 3 feet but today she glacially approached me and bestowed the tip of her tongue on my finger before dashing back to safety.
It was a big deal to us both.
