Tyrannosaurus Retriever

OK, I promise to start limiting the silly videos. But just one more.

This one struck home because I am trying to do some very basic training with Reiko. Recognizing her own name would be a good start. It’s hard to make progress when the pooch is still too afraid to allow touch.

Do you think this approach would work? Nah, nah, nah. Only kidding, this is really bad but you have to admit the expression on the Golden’s face is funny. Clicky the linky:

As I posted this, I realized that perhaps I was wrong in making comparisons between Reiko’s glacial progress and other dogs. Such comparisons are patently unfair as clearly demonstrated by the next (and I as promised before, the last for awhile) video.

Most of my friends’ dogs are like ‘my dog’ in the video clip.. Best not comment on mine…..

As for your little princess, I think she is making progress – on her terms. She sleeps under your bed in order to wake you….she enjoys that Kong thing….she explores when she thinks she is alone…..she’s been with you so short a time….
I thik in a way you have to become part of the furniture…..so more adult beverages in the recliner!

The snippet of the little dog drawing a poo heart on the carpet resonates a bit closely. But, I always follow your sage advice (tarragon and oregano ,too) so I shall indeed imbibe more adult beverages while on the Recliner of Sloth.

      Snorf.

From the looks of your posts (reposting Tick Tock videos), you are already spending plenty of time in the recliner! ๐Ÿ˜†

Itโ€™s still very early in your journey with Reiko. It takes a couple months for a rescue pup to settle in. I have one friend who said that with her rescue pup, the dog avoided her human for a whole year. The pup spent most of that time hiding under the bed. Then after a year the dog came out, jumped up on the couch and was glued to her person from then on.

Do you have any friends in the area with small dogs? Iโ€™ve heard that it is easiest to let another dog teach a rescue how to be a dog.

That’s an interesting idea about bringing in another little dog for a how-to-human session. I do not have a source for the other pup but I may just reach out on Nextdoor and see if I can set something up. I figure if I offer the owner of a simpatico pooch a choice of coffee, Japanese tea, beer or wine and maybe a few bucks someone would come over and just chat for a half hour while the doggies meet.

Sounds like a good idea for both of you! ๐Ÿ˜‚. Later Reiko might be brave enough for the dog park.

Yeah, if nothing else I got another post out of this conversation. At this point, however, the dog park might as well be on Tristan da Cunha.

You expect too much too soon. Your little girl is still decompressing!

Thanks for the laughs! My Nox is like the my friendโ€™s dog, while Luna was like the my dog. Bruce called Luna sweet, but stupider than a cabbage head.

I do hope your pup will adjust to her new life soon.

“Stupider than a cabbage head” may become part of my snark commentary. “Dumber than a mud fence” had a good run but needs to be retired.

Haha! Bruce has a lot of snark. It makes me laugh!

    Thanks for the laughs! ๐Ÿ˜€

Your friend’s dog is an overachieving show-off who has little personality, no fabulous quirks, has no idea how to keep their human in line, or make their human laugh. Your friend’s dog sounds boring! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€

I think Reiko is making progress…on her terms and in her time. And that’s perfectly okay! ๐Ÿ™‚ One day at a time. ๐Ÿ™‚ We are all rooting for her and for you! ๐Ÿ™‚

PS…Cooper loved his “Girlfriend” (a stuffed-animal dog his size). He loved her A LOT…and OFTEN. I always cracked up when he “spent time with her” in front of visiting family or friends. Ha! He put on quite the show! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜

    1. Reiko's Journey Avatar

Ha! I never knew that Cooper was such a randy little dude but that explains that gleam in his eye in all the photos. Yeah, I realize that it’s not possible to set a timeline for bonding; it either happens or it doesn’t and who is to know the when and where it might first show up. That’s OK. I’m not in a hurry.

      1. doesitevenmatter3 Avatar

No hurry for sure. That’s THE best attitude and mind-set to have. ๐Ÿ™‚

Love to hear from ya
